For more than two decades, Odessa Animal Control has sold lost and stray cats to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), where they are used in cruel and deadly medical training courses.
A spokesperson for Odessa Animal Control has stated, "We don't have a problem with [selling cats to TTUHSC]. … We don't ask any questions."
If Odessa Animal Control did ask questions, it would learn that the cats are killed after hard plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down their throats and needles are stabbed into their chests in training exercises for which educationally superior humanlike simulators are available to replace animals.
PETA is urging Texas Tech University officials to end this cruel and unnecessary course and is asking Odessa Animal Control to stop selling animals to Texas Tech immediately.
Help give a voice to these suffering felines by contacting Cheryl Brom of Odessa Animal Control as well as Odessa Mayor Larry Melton. Tell them that Odessa Animal Control is betraying the vulnerable cats in its care by selling them to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and that it needs to stop.
