Tokyo-Pop Lounge
$1482
Injection-molded polyethylene
emerges as something wholly natural and fluid in Tokujin Yoshioka’s
Tokyo-Pop Collection (2002). The indoor/outdoor collection’s
sensuous, organic lines were defined by the proportions of
the human body, creating a study in the innovative use of a
man-made material. Described by the U.K. Times as a surprisingly
comfortable “molded, rigid reclining device,” the
Tokyo-Pop Lounge allows the user to lay back, while remaining
upright enough to partake in the conversation. |
Veneto Square Dining Table
$2650
The Veneto Collection (2006)
uses the durability of teak wood to create a uniquely modern
outdoor furnishings collection. Contract quality, the Square
Dining Table’s clean lines and natural coloration suit
applications from pool to patio and beyond. The Table is made
from sustainable teak that’s harvested from plantations
managed by the Ministry of Forestry for the Indonesian government.
This teak is taken from the inner part of the tree’s
trunk, where the wood is rich in oils and devoid of knots.
Like all teak, it will patina to a rich, silvery color over
time, or can be treated with teak oil to maintain its original
luster. |
Veneto Stackable Chaise Lounge
$1400
The Veneto Collection
(2006) pairs the durability of teak wood with an innovative
hand-woven fiber called WaProLace®, creating a uniquely
modern outdoor seating and dining collection. Contract quality,
the Chaise Lounge’s clean lines and natural coloration
suit applications from pool to patio and beyond. The stackable
Chaise has an adjustable back that lies all the way to flat
and a footrest that can be raised and lowered for prolonged
lounging. |
Neuton® Battery-Powered Mower
$479
The EPA estimates that of
the 800 million gallons of gas used to fuel lawn mowers in
the U.S. every year, about 17 million gallons are spilled,
which can contaminate ground water. However, your “it’s
bad for the environment” excuse for not mowing the lawn
is about to end. The Neuton Battery-Powered Mower (2007) is
a smart alternative to loud, gas-guzzling machines that are
difficult to start. It runs on a rechargeable battery, and
in place of a pull-cord, this mower starts by turning a safety
knob and squeezing the handlebar. When the handlebar is released,
the blade stops spinning. The Neuton Mower produces no CO2
emissions, and the 24-volt battery gives you enough juice to
mow for 45 to 60 minutes, or approximately a third of an acre
per charge. |
Veneto Sofa
$3300
The Veneto Collection (2006)
pairs the durability of teak wood with an innovative hand-woven
fiber called WaProLace®, creating a uniquely modern outdoor
seating and dining collection. Contract quality, the Veneto
Sofa’s clean lines and natural coloration suit applications
from pool to patio and beyond. The Sofa’s frame is made
from sustainable teak, harvested from plantations managed by
the Ministry of Forestry for the Indonesian government. This
teak is taken from the inner part of the tree’s trunk,
where the wood is rich in oils and devoid of knots. |
Solar Car
$125
The Solar Car
evokes old-fashioned hand carved toys, but with the modern
addition of a solar panel. Take the Car outside on a sunny
day, put it down on any flat surface and let it go. As long
as there’s sun to be absorbed, the solar panel will keep
the Car moving. |
Rubber Flower Pots (Set of 3)
$110
Americans alone toss out about 300 million
tires every year. The big thinkers of the world are working
on creative ways to reuse this vast quantity of rubber – ideas
include mixing ground-up tires with urethane to create sidewalks
or burning them like coal to produce energy. Meanwhile, some
designers are thinking a little smaller. With the set of three
Rubber Flower Pots, discarded tires are hand-cut and hand-sewn
into vessels that can be used for plants outdoors or inside. |
Tuuci Razor Shade Platform
$1250
If you've ever sat under an umbrella for
a long period, you know that as the sun moves, the amount of
shade changes. This problem motivated designer Dougan Clarke
to design his asymmetrical Tuuci Razor Shade Platform (2002).
Always tilted, this razor-thin canopy maintains maximum protection
from the sun by spinning 360 degrees. |
Luau Portable Lamp
$250
The Luau Portable
Lamp (2006) makes standard table lamps look so, well, stationary.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, Luau is a lighting solution
that delivers dimmable ambient light without being tethered
to an electrical socket. When Luau is lifted from its base,
the lamp automatically lights. Increase or decrease the amount
of light by spinning the lamp with the bottom against your
palm. |
Aeron Chair - Lumbar Support
$949 - $974
Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick,
two award-winning industrial designers, created the Aeron Chair
(1994), earning themselves a place in what amounts to the designers'
hall of fame - the design collection of New York's MoMA. The
Aeron is the apotheosis of ergonomic seating, conceived to
conform not only to different human shapes and weights but
also to movement.

Twilight Sleep Sofa
$1650
Designed in response to a furniture competition
at the Arhus School of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, the Twilight
Sleep Sofa ingeniously accomplishes what many conventional convertible
sofas cannot do: It functions as a single person daybed or easily
unfolds for multiple sleepers. Intended for sitting, resting
and sleeping, the design is ideal for dens or home offices that
double as guest rooms, with its compact form and simple fold
out double bed surface.

Ronde Armchair
$100
The Ronde Armchair, designed by Aldo Ciabatti,
is a familiar sight in cafes throughout Europe. Its rounded spoon
shape is outlined in tubular steel, and two simple arches swoop
gracefully to serve as both legs and armrests. Neatly welded
onto the frame is flattened sheet-metal mesh, a semitransparent
screen that gives the chair its light look. |
Neutra House Number
$75
Based on the iconic lettering
that midcentury architect Richard Neutra specified for use
on his buildings in the 1930's - 1950's, this complete set
of stainless steel house numbers was produced through collaboration
with son Dion Neutra and an independent type foundry. Precision
crafted by a 50-year-old metal fabrication shop, each number
weighs half a pound and installs on flat surfaces without visible
hardware. |
Louis Ghost Arm Chair
$410
Who else but Philippe
Starck would dare mess with a king? Reinventing the classic
Louis XV armchair for Kartell, the playful Louis Ghost Armchair
(2002) is a postmodern triumph of technical innovation and
historical style. Translating the varied lines and formal
geometry of its predecessor into a single form of translucent
or opaque black or white injection-molded polycarbonate,
it is a robust chair with not a single weak point. |
Eames Soft Pad Management Chair
$2129 - $2949
A distinctive profile. A
taut seat sling. Soft, thick cushions. In concert, they yield
the Eames; Soft Pad Chair. Handsome and versatile, the Soft
Pad Chair may be used successfully in a variety of home and
office settings. In the dining area, for example, each member
of the family can adjust the height and angle of the chair
to his or her preference. |
