If Propecia can clad a balding man with a plush headful of hair, why the arduous challenge to invent a product for those of us who have found ourselves spiraling down that "tweezer giddy" road to the land of the browless? And what about those of us who are entirely innocent? Naïve to the oh-so-seductive little tool that has rendered many of us Whoopi Goldberg look-a-likes? Don't we deserve to achieve the appearance of thicker, fuller brows?Until the FDA approves Propecia for the female brow, we'll have to continue settling with the old standby...faking it! Thankfully, with all the great products available a mere point 'n click away, faking it has never been easier.
The most important tool to faking it is a GREAT brush. The ideal one will feel light and natural in your grasp, rendering you in complete control! We love Philosophy's brow brush. It stays extremely firm (yet pliable) after hundreds of uses while gripping onto shadow pigment so well - you'll never need to moisten it (thus preserving its' life much longer!).
Your next tool for "faking it" will be a powder offering the ideal pigment which lasts throughout the day and closely matches your haircolor. I have covered the entire brunette spectrum with the help of some fantastic (and not so fantastic hair stylists). While journeying through these various shades, I've yet to stray from Bobbi Brown's "Sable" eye shadow. It covers the widest brunette range from medium brown, auburn, to darker tones. A little goes a long way too, I've been using it every day for the past year and it's nowhere near retirement.
If your hair's on the light brown to blonder side we've made a recent discovery in the world of Club Monaco. Their Brow Powders come in three shades including blonde, light brown, and dark brown. Each have a comparable consistency and just as much staying power as the Bobbi Brown shadow. (And more affordable at $10.00 a piece!)
To polish your look, I recommend the following pencils to fill in potential bald spots and define the brow to your liking. There are two qualities in these pencils that ought to be celebrated! #1: Smoothness and ease. Absolutely no clumping! You are in control- not the pencil! And #2: Applying the right amount of pressure to accommodate your desired brow color and style is so very doable. A lot of versatility in a single pencil!
Valerie Beverly Hills Queen Brow in "Puppy" is remarkable. It accommodates a wide spectrum of red heads and brunettes (both light and dark medium) and has a quality grooming brush on the opposite end. While blondes can turn to Hard Candy's Brow Pencil in "Sugar," the blackest of the black can create wonders with Hard Candy's Pencil in "Pal."
But you'd rather not spend more than $5 on a brow pencil? Check these inexpensive yet worthy opponents to the above: Almay Professional Soft Brow Color includes a grooming brush on one end and lighter hair tones can't go wrong with the $1.29 extra-lengthy standby - Wet 'n Wild's eyebrow/liner pencil in Taupe is a great neutral for lighter toned brows.
If you have any stray, unruly hairs on your brow - here's a great trick to keep them in total control throughout the day using two items most likely already on your vanity table. Take a clean toothbrush (baby sized ones are ideal) and spray a touch of hairspray directly on it. Then "brush" your brows into place.
But it's Summer now, right? Makeup tends to melt when exposed to triple digit degree weather- especially when it comes to "assisted" brows that need all the staying power they can get! Rest assured, none of the above products will wear out without a real fight. In fact, at the end of your day or evening, cleansing these guys takes the work of a super effective eye make up remover! Thankfully the best of which is sitting on a counter a mere click away - Maybelline's Oil Free Eye Make Up Remover. You can't compete with the price and we've yet to find a more thorough, non-irritating eye make up remover.
These products certainly won't fertilize our Linda Un-Evangelista brows or transform them into the permanently and perfectly groomed ones we may dream of, but with a bit of effort it's quite easy to achieve "The Look".
